Abstract | The authors discuss (1) the interface between intuitive decision making and the use of computer-based models and data bases (collectively called decision support systems); (2) the normal intuitive decision process along with medical information data bases, statistical inference systems, and decision analysis; and (3) artificial intelligence systems. The authors also discuss the use of decision support systems to enhance intuitively derived decisions, as well as the situations where the use of such systems is incomplete and invalid. |
