Abstract | A new computerized system (CABAS) for on-line, real-time, automated determination of arterial PO2, PCO2, and pH has undergone initial laboratory evaluation and preliminary clinical experience with 13 infants. The system appears to be safe and accurate and to offer some distinct advantages over present methods. [This system is based on automated blood sampling through an umbilical arterial catheter. 4.8 cc of blood are removed at a rate of 4 cc/min; the terminal 0.3 cc is analyzed; and the other 4.5 cc is returned to the infant. The results are displayed on an bedside terminal. The system is controlled remotely by a CDC 3300 computer.] |
