| Abstract | The rationale for developing computer-based techniques to aid the physician in collecting data from patients is presented. The potential effect of these techniques on the patient-physician relationship is discussed. The Automated Medical History (AMH) system is a computer based method which collects medical information from patients by means of a terminal device and summarizes the patient responses, in a brief narrative summary couched in medical terminology. This summary is a prototype of the standardized, legible, medical record. The AMH was evaluated with respect to patient reaction and performance, physician reaction, consistency of patient responses, and relationship of AMH summary to the traditional patient record. |
