| Abstract | This article surveys computing in a medicine in a generalized way as of 1984, pointing out unique features that offer special challenges to both hardware and software engineers. Among the subjects discussed the automation of medical history-taking, instrument-derived data analysis, medical imaging, image processing, image storage and retrieval, visual observations, and decision-making. |
