Wanted: Neonatologist

We are looking for an energetic full-time clinical neonatologist to help round out the team of 3 neonatologists and 2 NNPs at the Howard County General Hospital (HCGH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The ideal candidate would be a progressive, quality minded MD or DO who is board certified or board eligible in Neonatology after completion of training in an approved Neonatal-Perinatal fellowship program.

Located in popular Columbia Maryland, HCGH is an 18 bed Level III NICU and functions as a community-based practice within the Division of Neonatology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. As such, this role includes a non-faculty, senior staff appointment at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

HCGH has an active obstetrical service with close to 2500 deliveries a year. Maternal fetal medicine (MFM) services are deeply integrated into the functioning of the obstetrical ward and monthly conferences between obstetrics / MFM / NICU keep us apprised of complicated patients.

As a neonatologist at HCGH, the primary responsibilities would be on-site patient care including day time service weeks, in-house call at night and weekend coverage. We are constantly improving our unit and currently able to support infants at the limit of viability. We utilize many types of ventilatory techniques including volume and pressure ventilation, oscillator ventilation, bubble CPAP and high flow nasal cannula. A wide breadth of consultative support is provided through collaboration with pediatric subspecialists at Johns Hopkins.

As part of a bigger system, the NICU at HCGH has opportunities for teaching clinical staff, quality improvement projects and participation in many of the wonderful educational conferences provided by the Department of Pediatrics / Division of Neonatology at Johns Hopkins.

The special skills required for this position include: Knowledge and skill in neonatal resuscitation/stabilization/maintenance. Knowledge of parenteral nutrition administration. Skill in intubation, use of respirators and respiratory assist devices, umbilical catheter placement, thoracentesis and chest tube placement, and lumbar puncture. Knowledge and skill in interpretation of neonatal x-ray studies. NRP Certification.
