The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) is seeking an experienced board-certified neonatologist to serve as Site Director of the level III NICU at Mount Sinai West, servicing an OB/MFM program with over 3000 deliveries per year, and providing support to critically ill infants including preterm infants delivered 22 weeks or greater, neonates requiring advanced respiratory support (high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide) and patients with HIE managed with therapeutic hypothermia.
Well qualified candidates will be those with strong clinical skills and expertise including procedural competence, a background in quality and safety work, and leadership experience. The MSW NICU Medical Director will report to the System Chief of Neonatology and MSW Chief Medical Officer.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Inpatient Unit Oversight:
Oversight of all clinical care, practice standardization, creation and implementation of guidelines
Partnership with unit nurse manager and nursing educator to supervise operations of inpatient unit
Service to families, including review and mitigation of patient issues
Collaboration and coordination of care with Labor &Delivery services and other subspecialty teams providing or partnering in care in the NICU
Close partnership with system NICU leadership to promote shared goals for unit
Patient Safety and Quality Improvement:
Facilitate and support Patient Safety and Quality Initiatives on the unit, in conjunction with physician Quality Improvement leads
Participate, when applicable, in department or hospital wide hospital acquired condition (HAC) or Quality meetings
Facilitate review of HACs in the unit
Facilitate regular review of unit mortalities as part of NICU Divisional Morbidity & Mortality meetings
Practitioner Oversight:
Coordinate frontline coverage for patients on unit
Direct house staff participation in unit patient care
Supervise and partner with direct managers to oversee front line provider (hospitalist) team.
Work with ancillary unit staff (nutrition, social work, child life) to define and oversee roles
Evaluating provider performance
Oversight of provider hiring, in collaborations with Divisional and Hospital leadership
Requirements:
1) Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited program.
2) Successful completion of a 3-year Pediatric ACGME approved residency program.
3) New York State Medical License (or eligible).
4) Board certified in both Pediatrics and Neonatology.
5) Meet eligibility requirements for an appointment to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
