The Chief will have the responsibility to advance the regional and national reputation of the Neonatology program and will establish and implement a vision that encompasses the mission and values of Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics. Both are dedicated to delivering world-class, compassionate care to children while advancing the understanding of the origins of human health and disease and educating healthcare professionals and biomedical investigators of the future, so they can bring the fruits of scientific discovery to pediatric patients and their families.
Key Highlights:
• Legacy opportunity to establish the vision and strategy that identifies the pathways for clinical growth, the building of research infrastructure to enable growth for basic science and clinical research projects as well as mentoring faculty and fellows.
• The Division of Neonatology has 10 physician faculty, 11 neonatal nurse practitioners and a regional perinatal center coordinator providing care to children and families throughout Long Island, NY, serving as the Regional Perinatal Center for Suffolk County. A new state-of-the-art 46 bed NICU was opened in 2011, providing Level III services and all private rooms.
• The new Chief will align and report directly to the Chair of Pediatrics and will be tasked with cultivating a vision and culture that fosters camaraderie, clinical excellence, enhances education and new protocol standards to ensure the delivery of care to neonates, and meets the standards of excellence set forth by Stony Brook Children’s mission.
• Stony Brook Children’s Hospital has the best record of any Regional Perinatal Center in achieving growth of premature infants prior to discharge—a best practice based on the belief that good nutrition at this stage benefits the baby’s neurodevelopmental outcome. Annually, there are approximately 1,000 admissions to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 100 neonatal transports, 200 maternal transports, 90 newborns weighing less than 1,500 grams and 4,000 inborn deliveries.
• We believe this to be one of the top leadership opportunities in the Northeast based on the foundation of a strong clinical faculty and the fiscal commitment from departmental and hospital leadership to grow programs.
• The Institution is willing to support seasoned leaders or individuals seeking their initial Chief role with mentorship, coaching and the fiscal resources necessary to recruit strong faculty.
