V. Mueller & Co. Incubators

V. Mueller & Co., a Chicago manufacturer and distributor of surgical instruments, sold a version of the Tarnier/Auvard/Budin incubator in the United States in the early 1900’s. The pages below are from their 1911 catalog.

One of the earliest infant transport incubators was invented by Dr. Julius Hess in Chicago in 1922. It was manufactured and advertised widely by V. Mueller and Company. Dr. Hess described his invention in a 1923 paper in JAMA titled “Heated Bed for Transportation of Premature Infants.”
